Uralvagonzavod, the only enterprise in Russia capable of producing new tanks, has unveiled a new version of the T-90M main battle tank, allegedly equipped with an active protection system.
Additional sensors can be seen on the tank's turret, as well as equipment that has not previously been demonstrated on production models. According to some experts, this is the Arena-M active protection system.
This system is designed to intercept missiles and other anti-tank munitions in the near zone around the tank by physically destroying them with special counter-munitions.
In simple terms, the T-90M will be able to destroy the munitions that attack it, which will theoretically give it an advantage on the battlefield.
The Arena-M includes radar stations that monitor the space around the tank, as well as launch silos with counter-munitions ready to launch.
