Politico reports that Ukraine will soon receive the first batch of American M1 Abrams tanks. These tanks are made in the United States. M1 Abrams is the main battle tank of the US Army, which is in service with the US Armed Forces, and several other countries. The first group of 200 Ukrainian tank crews has already completed training in operating this equipment at American tank training grounds in Germany.
The Ukrainian military will continue to be trained until these tanks arrive in Ukraine. The first batch of Abrams, consisting of 10 vehicles, will be transferred to the Armed Forces of Ukraine in mid-September. In total, in the fall, the United States promised to supply Ukraine with more than 3 dozen units of this equipment.

But despite the fact that this tank was developed 50 years ago, it has been actively modernized all this time, and still remains one of the best MBTs in the world. At the same time, the car perfectly passed its "baptism of fire" in the wars in the Persian Gulf, as well as in Iraq and Afghanistan, having established itself as an excellent tank.
Abrams is a rather heavy machine, weighing about 70 tons. At the same time, it has excellent armor and maneuverability, modern models can accelerate to 67 kilometers per hour.
However, despite the good performance characteristics, this machine has a number of disadvantages. Abrams is very difficult to maintain, while it consumes a huge amount of fuel (diesel or aviation), and also requires good logistical support - trucks with fuel, shells and spare parts. It was these reasons that were one of the main arguments against the supply of this equipment to Ukraine.
