Hungary receives first of 44 German Leopard 2A7HU tanks under $565 million contract
Rheinmetall has begun deliveries of Leopard 2 tanks to Hungary. Recently, the first German main battle tank arrived in the country.
Hungary in December 2018 ordered 44 Leopard 2A7+ tanks in a special modification 2A7HU. Budapest also acquired 24 Panzerhaubitze 2000 self-propelled artillery mounts and 12 restored Leopard 2A7HU tanks. The total value of the contract was $565 million.
The Hungarian version of the main battle tank has improved protection for the upper projection of the turret and a new fire control system. The Leopard 2A7HU is also equipped with a PERI RTWL sight and a platform for the FN Herstal RWS weapon station.
