The Polish concern will modernize the PT-91 and T-72 tanks provided to Ukraine

Soviet and Polish-made tanks received by Ukraine will be repaired on Polish territory. It is noted that the Polish Arms Group (Polska Grupa Zbrojeniowa, PGZ) previously announced the creation of a technology center for the repair of Ukrainian T-64 tanks.

Repair work on T-64 tanks was launched at the Bumar-Labedy armored plant in Gliwice. The corresponding agreement was concluded by the PGZ company and the Ukrainian concern Ukrobronprom.

“It is expected that the plant in Gliwice will eventually service and modernize the PT-91 and T-72 tanks transferred to Ukraine by Poland,” the PAP agency reports.

The same plant can service German Leopard 2A4 battle tanks, which Ukraine receives from its Western allies.

PT-91 Twardy is the third generation Polish main battle tank. It is developed on the basis of the Soviet T-72M1. The first prototypes of the tank were manufactured in 1993. Last year, the Ukrainian army received a certain number of these tanks.

T-72 Ural is a second generation main battle tank developed during the Soviet era. It was adopted by the Soviet army in 1973. Since then, the tank has been modified several times.

Polska Grupa Zbrojeniowa is one of the largest defense concerns in Europe, uniting more than 50 companies. The day before, the concern announced that it had sent the first batch of repaired Leopard tanks to Ukraine. Work continues on other combat vehicles.
