General Dynamics will manufacture M1 Abrams tanks for Ukraine - Pentagon
General Dynamics Land Systems has signed a $27.1 million contract with the Pentagon to produce a batch of M1 Abrams tanks for Ukraine, according to the US military.
"General Dynamics Land Systems, Michigan, has been awarded a $27.1 million contract to build M1A1 tanks," the Pentagon said in a statement.
It does not specify the number of tanks to be produced, but notes that the order will be completed in Lima, Ohio, presumably until September 29, 2023.
Earlier in January, US President Joe Biden announced a decision to send 31 M1 Abrams tanks to Kyiv. At the same time, Bloomberg reported, citing sources, that Washington will allocate $ 400 million for this, General Dynamics will be engaged in the creation of tanks.
The M1 Abrams is the main battle tank of the US military and has been in service since 1980. The United States has more than 2.6 thousand units of various modifications of the M1 Abrams, more than 3 thousand 450 vehicles are in storage.
