Italian Army Receives Upgraded Ariete C2 Tank

The Italian Army has officially received the first upgraded Ariete C2 main battle tank. The Italian Army has a total of 150 tanks, including the C1 Ariete, 90 of which are undergoing upgrades as part of a comprehensive program.

The upgrade includes significant adjustments to the tank's design to increase mobility, firepower, and improve control systems, ultimately extending the service life of the vehicle. Engine power has been increased by 20%, the tank's turret has received advanced next-generation systems, and work has been done on the control system, including the installation of a new gearbox and an improved braking system. In addition, the Ariete C2 has received new fire extinguishing and explosion protection systems.

The Italian Army Chief of Staff, Lieutenant General Carmine Masiello, described the arrival of the new tank as a decisive step in a continuous and significant development, as the delivery of the Ariete C2 is “a symbol of innovation and cooperation between the army and the defence industry.”

The Ariete C2 is expected to serve the Italian Army as a tank platform until 2040, undergoing upgrades as needed until European countries begin to transition to the next generation of tanks.
