“This is the most modernized version of the Abrams, and Poland will receive the most modern tanks,” Austin said Friday during a joint press conference with his Polish counterpart.
Austin stressed that defense assistance would "strengthen our engagement with the Polish military, increase confidence in our joint deterrence efforts with NATO allies."
The US State Department approved the sale of M1 Abrams tanks and other military equipment to Poland in the amount of $6 billion. The relevant information is set out in the message of the Defense Cooperation Agency of the US Department of Defense, which was provided to Congress on Friday.
The United States, Germany and Great Britain announced the redeployment of their military in order to strengthen the eastern flank of NATO.
The US plans to more than double its military contingent in Poland. An additional 4,700 US troops will be stationed there on a temporary basis.
