Germany to donate 15 Leopard tanks to the Czech Republic

Germany will transfer 15 Leopard tanks to the Czech Republic to replace the T-72 transferred to Ukraine. The Czech side will receive not only tanks, but also shells with spare parts for them. They are also being upgraded to version 2A7+.

The Czech Republic will receive 15 Leopard 2A4 tanks from Germany after sending tanks and infantry fighting vehicles to Ukraine. It is reported by Defense Brief.

The Czech Republic confirmed that Germany will supply 15 Leopards to replace the equipment that was handed over to the Ukrainian army. In addition, the parties will be negotiating the possibility of buying up to 50 Leopard 2A7+ tanks in the coming years. Spare parts and ammunition will be handed over along with 15 tanks. The first tank will be handed over no later than 6 months after the signing of the contract. In addition, the Czech Republic expects the 2A4 tanks to be upgraded to the 2A7+ version.

Officially, the Czech Republic did not announce how much equipment was transferred to Ukraine, but it is known that T-72 tanks, BMP-1 and Strela-10 air defense systems were transferred.

"Germany has long been our key economic partner. However, this is not the case in the field of defense, and we want to change this not only in the field of armored forces, but also in bilateral cooperation in general. I believe that thanks to this, our army will become stronger, and our country is safer," Czech Defense Minister Yana Chernokhova said.
