Robotic tank Milrem Type-X has successfully passed the test

Milrem Robotics and Kongsberg Defense & Aerospace have teamed up for the first exercise involving a robotic tank based on the Milrem Type-X Robotic Combat Vehicle (RCV), equipped with a Kongsberg Protector (RT-40) remote-controlled turret and a 30mm Bushmaster cannon.

The battle tank, which is part of the Nordic Robotic Wingman (NRW) project, was designed by engineers Milrem and Kongsberg.

The idea was that the robotic vehicle could act as support for main battle tanks (MBTs) and infantry fighting vehicles (IFVs), while providing equal and superior firepower and tactical capabilities to IFV units.

"Although the tests used a 30mm Bushmaster cannon with leverless ammunition supply, the Type-X is capable of carrying cannons up to 50mm caliber, as well as anti-tank missiles and a tethered reconnaissance drone," the material says.

The media also reports that Milrem has created an engine and a control module based on artificial intelligence algorithms. This module provides autonomous navigation at given coordinates, and can also detect obstacles. It is worth noting that it is convenient to control the tank robot remotely even at high speeds, which is provided by the special Indirect Drive function.
