Hungary received three Leopard 2A7HU tanks

Despite the fact that the position of the political leadership of Hungary on some issues runs counter to the generally accepted position of European countries, Hungary is a member of NATO. Therefore, this country, like other countries of the alliance, is gradually re-equipping its own army. To the best of your ability, as well as based on your means and needs.

It became known that Hungary received three Leopard 2A7HU tanks [in this case, HU is Hungarian]. That is, these are the same Leopard 2A7, but built to Hungarian order. The fact that the Hungarian Armed Forces received new equipment was reported by the Defense Post resource.

As the report says, the ceremony of transferring equipment to the troops took place in the north-west of the country. Now the Hungarian army has as many as eight Leopard tanks. New tanks entered service with the 1st Armored Brigade, which is stationed in the city of Tata. The city itself is located not far from the Hungarian-Slovak border.

Hungary is currently expanding its fleet of armored vehicles. The Hungarian military expects to receive another 36 Leopard 2A7HU main battle tanks, five Wisent 2HU armored recovery vehicles and three Leguan 2HU tank bridge-laying vehicles by 2028. Auxiliary equipment is also made on the chassis of the Leopard 2 tank.

As Defense Post notes, the Leopard 2A7HU is the most advanced version of the Leopard 2 tank. The combat vehicle is well-armed and has good protection. The tank can take part in both low- and high-intensity combat operations.

In 2018, Hungary ordered 44 such tanks from the German concern Krauss-Maffei Wegmann. In addition to them, 24 more self-propelled howitzers were ordered. The contract value was $565 million. The new tanks are intended to replace the Soviet-style T-72M1, which is in service with the Hungarian army.
